This outreach grant is in honor and memory of the beloved Clifford Jones. Clifford received a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Erskine College in South Carolina. He entered the US Army in 1979 where he served his country as a dental hygienist. He was honorably discharged after serving 3 years. He attended Raymond Walters College in Cincinnati and received an Associate of Applied Science degree in 1984. He was the first male graduate of the program and helped reign in the 28 female classmates. In 2006, the college recognized him for his outstanding contributions to the community as a Distinguished Alumni. In 2003, he earned his Master’s Degree in Health Administration from Central Michigan University.
Cliff was the first male president of the Ohio Dental Hygienists’ Association and served from 2004-2005. In 2005, he was presented a resolution from the city of Cincinnati for the honor of being the first male president. Throughout his tenure with ODHA, he was the recipient of the 2000 Gail Benninger Award and the 2005 Outstanding Effort Award for his efforts in Government Relations. He served as Cincinnati Trustee, Sargent of Arms, O-Hy-Pac Director, Vice President and ADHA Reference Committee. He was appointed by the Governor of Ohio to serve on the Ohio State Dental Board as a Dental Hygiene Representative in 2007. His position on the Board allowed him to become a North East Regional Board Dental Examiner. In addition to the dental field, Clifford was also a member of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care, the American College of Health Care Executives, Co-Chairman of the Cincinnati Coalition for the Homeless and was wrestling referee for 25 years with the Ohio Athletic Association. Clifford had a smile that was contagious and his heart was ever-so warm. His spirit was always positive and he strengthened many with his kind words and intellect.
