ODHA's Beth Tronolone Receives Another Honor!

[published: 06/15/2015 in Exciting News]

UHCAN Ohio Honors – Northwest Ohio Advocate, Beth Tronolone, and 5 other Champions of Health Care

Columbus, OH—UHCAN Ohio honored six champions of health care at its annual event, Lend your Voice—Health Care for All,  held on May 21, 2015, at the historic Lincoln Theatre.  The six honorees were chosen because they enhance the consumer voice in demanding a health care system that delivers quality, affordable health care for all Ohioans.

“Building the consumer voice to make health care work for all Ohioans is our core mission,” said Cathy Levine, Executive Director of UHCAN Ohio. “The individuals and organization we honored have worked tirelessly in their communities to give voice to the voiceless.”

Beth Tronolone, BSDH, MOL, Chair of the Dental Hygiene Program at Owens Community College, was recognized for her work as an educator of dental hygiene students, professional peers, and legislators about the lack of dental access in Ohio and the need for mid-level dental providers. Ms. Tronolone serves as the Ohio Dental Hygienists’ Association Government Relations Chair and has received multiple accolades including the Margie A. Pierce Aspiring Professional Award, the Ohio Dental Hygienist Association Outstanding Effort Award, and Philips Sonicare/Registered Dental Hygienist magazine Mentor of the Year.

“Beth has provided bold leadership as an educator and professional to raise awareness about the lack of access to basic dental services, including hygiene and restorative care in Ohio. She supports the modernization of the dental workforce to include Dental Hygiene Therapists and Dental Therapists,” said Levine.

State Representative Barbara Sears of Ohio’s 47th House District, presented Ms. Tronolone with her award saying, “I’m thankful to have had the opportunity to gain knowledge from Beth and UHCAN Ohio on dental issues which has increased my comfort level to standing out on these issues.” Representative Sears also presented her with a recognition of her work signed by the House Speaker on behalf of the Ohio House of Representatives.

Upon receiving her award, Ms. Tronolone said, “I’m honored to be recognized by UHCAN Ohio but I know there’s still much work that needs to be done. There is such a great need for access to dental care, it is important to continue to keep building coalitions to bring awareness to the situation and make dental care a reality for all Ohioans.”

Ms. Tronolone was joined by five other honorees from across Ohio that UHCAN Ohio recognized at their Lend your Voice—Health Care for All annual tribute event. The other honorees included:
  • Dru Bagley, Chair of the Columbus Westside Community Health Advisory Committee, Columbus, OH
  • Semanthie Brooks, Director of Community Advocacy at Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging, Cleveland, OH
  • Ohio AIDS Coalition, Columbus, OH
  • Susan Rogers, Director of the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of the Ohio Valley
  • Judith Warren, CEO of Health Care Access Now, Cincinnati, OH
UHCAN Ohio is a consumer health advocacy organization working to achieve high quality, affordable health care for all Ohioans and building the voice of consumers in health care.
