Vaping, e-cigarettes and new harmful trends
9:00am CE: The Pain Epidemic of the 21st Century-Opioid and Pain Management Pain is now considered a global health issue and may affect each and every one of us in our lifetime in one way or another. With mounting evidence demonstrating the high prevalence of pain in today’s society, it is important to raise awareness about the pain epidemic and discuss the many facets of pain such as: assessment, treatment and mismanagement. This course has been designed to enhance the role that healthcare providers play in providing a collaborative approach to patient centered and comprehensive care and address the opioid crisis. 2 CEUs Course Objectives: • Understand the physiological and psychological aspects of pain • Comprehend the opioid crisis and addiction • Identify pain management strategies ** This course meets the requirements set forth in the Ohio Administrative Code for Mandatory Opioid Education.
11:15am CE: What the JUUL? Vaping, e-cigarettes and new harmful trends These devices are sleek, easy to use and all the rage among teens, young adults and those seeking to quit traditional cigarettes. But what is the impact on oral health? Let’s explore the current vape culture and address specific health concerns and the role of the healthcare provider. 2 CEUs Course Objectives: • Identify vaping trends, liquids and devices • Understand the potential health risks associated with vaping • Manage conversations around vaping and oral health
Lancette VanGuilder, BS,RDH,PHEDH,CEAS graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1995 and has spent the last two decades actively involved in the dental industry as a speaker, author, clinician, and public health advocate. She is a past president of the Nevada Dental Hygienists Association, a past recipient of the Nevada Dental Hygienist of the Year and received the Innovative Career Vision Award for her work in all 7 professional roles of the dental hygienist. She served on the board of directors for the American Dental Hygienists Association and has been honored at the national level by receiving the ADHA Irene Newman Professional Achievement award, recognizing her for her contributions to advancing the art and science of the dental hygiene profession over the last 15 years. Out of 230,000 dental hygienists, she was selected as one to the Top 6 Dental Hygienists to know in 2021, by the national publication Dimensions in Dental Hygiene. In 2022, she received global recognition, receiving the Denobi “All-Star “award for her public health, mobile dentistry, advocacy, speaking and vaccine accomplishments. Most recently, she received the highest honor given by the American Dental Hygienists Association by being recognized with the ADHA Award of Excellence. This award has only been given to a small number of select individuals over the last 100 years.
Lancette is an internationally recognized continuing education speaker and serves as a key opinion leader in the dental industry. She serves as the clinical director for Sierra Sleep, Airway and Wellness Center in Reno, Nevada. In addition, she works as a clinician in private practice, owns a mobile dentistry business, a national CE company and provides ergonomic coaching. Amidst the pandemic, she became a proud COVID vaccinator with Battle Born Medical Corp and has traveled across the globe advocating for vaccine administration by dental hygienists. Most recently, she co-founded a non-profit called The RISE Experience. RISE retreats provide education/training and support for women in healthcare who want to make an impact in the world and pursue entrepreneurship.
